How to Run International Calls Without a Translator

How to Run International Calls Without a Translator

An international call often runs into the same question: who's going to translate? Hiring a human interpreter for a one-hour call with a prospective client is expensive and slow to arrange — you need to book them in advance, sync schedules across even more time zones, and the meeting itself turns into a conversation through a middleman, where tone gets lost and half the meaning goes into "hold on, let me check."

Why a live interpreter isn't always an option

For regular work calls — daily syncs, quick sales calls, fast check-ins with a contractor — an interpreter is overkill, both in cost and in the effort to arrange one. And for an informal conversation — a call with a partner, friends, or getting to know a new colleague — having a third person on the line changes the tone of the conversation on its own: it's harder to joke, harder to speak directly.

How real-time voice translation works

Speech recognition and synthesis technology has reached the point where you can get a translation right during the conversation, with no pause to "let me translate that." Loquora recognizes your speech, translates it, and voices it to the other person almost instantly — about one second of latency on average. And it doesn't sound like a faceless robot: the system clones your voice from a short sample, so the other person hears a translation, but recognizes your own tone and manner of speaking.

What you need to start a call without a translator

  1. Install the app (Windows/macOS) or the browser extension.
  2. Record about 60 seconds of your voice once — it takes a couple of minutes.
  3. Choose the languages: yours and the other person's (or turn on auto-detection).
  4. Join the call as usual — Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, or any WebRTC service. Loquora works as a virtual microphone, so there's no platform-specific plugin to install.

If you're not ready for voice dubbing yet, you can start with subtitles: a live text translation of incoming speech overlaid on your screen, no voice cloning required. That's available on the free plan too.

Which calls this works best for

Short and mid-length work calls where there's no time or budget for an interpreter: sales calls, candidate interviews, syncs with an overseas team, consultations with contractors. And personal conversations too — with a partner, friends, or relatives in another country, where a third-party interpreter would just be out of place.

When you still need a live interpreter

To be honest: for legally binding negotiations, complex medical consultations, or meetings where a translation mistake is genuinely costly, machine translation is a helper, not a replacement for a professional. Like any AI translation, Loquora doesn't guarantee perfect accuracy on complex terminology, and for those cases it's worth keeping a human on hand.

For everything else — work and personal calls where speed and naturalness matter most — translation without a translator is already a solid option.
