Which one fits

The decision mostly depends on language pair and platform.

Loquora

Pick Loquora for calls in different apps

It is the better fit when you use several calling apps, need Russian or another language outside Google's current list, or want one setup you control yourself.

Google Meet Speech Translation

Pick Google when your organization already has it in Meet

It is the better fit when every call happens in Meet, a host can turn the feature on and your language pair is supported.

Key differences

The products overlap in outcome, not in scope.

01

One platform versus many

Google owns the meeting surface and integrates directly. Loquora stays outside the calling app and can follow you between services.

02

Five English pairs versus 58 languages

Google's spoken feature currently centers on English. Loquora supports broader combinations, including Russian.

03

Built-in controls or the Loquora microphone

Google is easier inside Meet. Loquora needs a one-time sound setup, but it can send your translated voice to other calling apps.

Honest trade-offs

What each option asks you to accept

Both are cloud-based AI translation systems and both can make mistakes. Neither should replace a qualified interpreter for consequential legal or medical decisions.

Loquora limitations

  • For the widest support, you need the Windows or macOS app.
  • In a calling program, you need to choose the Loquora microphone.
  • The browser extension only works with supported calls that run in the browser.

Google Meet limitations

  • Spoken translation is not available to every user.
  • Only one language pair can be active for the whole meeting.
  • It is unavailable in live streams and recordings and has a 90-minute limit.

Questions

Loquora vs Google Meet FAQ

Does Google Meet translate spoken audio or only captions?

Meet has two separate features. Translated captions display text in many languages. Speech Translation speaks translated audio in a voice like the speaker, currently between English and five listed languages.

Can I use Loquora with a personal Google Meet account?

Yes. Loquora processes the audio independently and sends the result through a virtual microphone, so it does not depend on the meeting host having an eligible Workspace edition.

Does the other participant need Loquora?

No. They hear your translated voice inside the existing call. They only need Loquora if they also want their own speech translated.

Which supports Russian spoken translation?

Loquora includes Russian among its 58 supported languages. Google's official Speech Translation page currently lists English paired with French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
