How to Choose a Language, Auto Detect and Region in Loquora

How to Choose a Language, Auto Detect and Region in Loquora

Loquora has three related but separate settings: the language a person speaks, the language of the translation, and a regional pronunciation option. You can also enable Auto Detect so the app notices when the conversation switches among certain languages.

This guide explains each setting without relying on language codes or technical terminology.

Start with the translation direction

For your outgoing speech, choose the language you speak and the language the other person should hear. If you speak English with a colleague in Spain, for example, choose English as the source and Spanish as the translation language.

The direction is reversed for their reply: Spanish speech is translated into English. You can read that reply in the Loquora panel or have the app read it aloud.

When both people use the same two languages throughout a call, manual selection is the clearest and most predictable setup.

What Auto Detect can do

Auto Detect is useful when a person naturally switches languages. Someone may begin a sentence in Russian, use an English term, and then continue in Russian. In this situation, you do not want to open the settings after every switch.

Automatic detection currently works with ten languages:

  • English;
  • Spanish;
  • French;
  • German;
  • Hindi;
  • Russian;
  • Portuguese;
  • Japanese;
  • Italian;
  • Dutch.

Auto Detect does not cover all 58 languages. If the language you need is not in this list, select it manually.

Even for one of these ten languages, manual selection may be more consistent for short phrases. Automatic detection needs to hear enough speech to identify the language, while a manual setting makes it known from the start.

What the region setting changes

A regional setting tells speech recognition which kind of pronunciation to expect. For English, you can choose the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, India or New Zealand. Portuguese includes Brazil and Portugal, while Spanish includes Spain and Latin America.

Not every language has regional choices. They appear where separate recognition options are supported. If there is no suitable option or you are unsure, keep the default.

This setting does not control the accent of the spoken translation. It helps Loquora understand the person before translating them. Standard and personal voices are configured separately.

All 58 Loquora languages

Any language in the list below can be selected manually for real-time translation:

  • Afrikaans, Arabic, Armenian, Assamese, Belarusian, Bengali, Bosnian, Bulgarian.
  • Catalan, Chinese (Mandarin), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian.
  • Filipino (Tagalog), Finnish, French, Georgian, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew.
  • Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Kazakh, Korean.
  • Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Malay, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Pashto.
  • Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak.
  • Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese.

The total number of languages does not mean every pair will sound equally good. Pronunciation, microphone quality, background noise and the selected language pair all affect the result. If you need translation for work, test several typical sentences and professional terms before the call.

Three simple setup examples

An English and Spanish conversation. You only speak English and the other person only replies in Spanish. Select both languages manually. Auto Detect is usually unnecessary in this situation.

A multilingual meeting. Participants move between English, Russian and German. Enable Auto Detect for incoming speech so you do not have to change the language for every participant.

A call with a colleague in Brazil. Choose Portuguese and the Brazil region for their speech. This helps recognition account for local pronunciation; the language of your translation is configured separately.

How to check the setup before a call

The Loquora home page has a one-minute demo that works without an account. You can select from all 58 languages and say a few sentences. For a complete call test, install the app or browser extension, select the Loquora microphone in your calling service, and make a short call with someone you know.

If the same word is recognized incorrectly several times, first check the selected language and region. Then try moving closer to the microphone and reducing steady background noise. These small changes are often more useful than speaking in an intentionally slow and unnatural way.
